{"id":5221,"date":"2026-05-12T11:08:37","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T04:08:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ap2si.id\/?p=5221"},"modified":"2026-05-12T11:08:37","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T04:08:37","slug":"komunitas-adat-watutau-perkuat-perlindungan-wilayah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ap2si.id\/en\/2026\/05\/12\/komunitas-adat-watutau-perkuat-perlindungan-wilayah\/","title":{"rendered":"The Watutau Indigenous Community Strengthens Regional Protection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">POSO,<a href=\"http:\/\/bulletin.id\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BULLETIN.ID<\/a>\u00a0The To Pekurehua Wanua Watutau Indigenous Community, Lore Peore District, Poso Regency, has developed a joint work program as a step to strengthen the protection of customary territories and community independence amidst pressure from land claims and threats to the living space of indigenous communities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The work program was developed through a workshop held on May 7\u20138, 2026, at Baruga Village in Watutau. The workshop was facilitated by the Indonesian Social Forestry Management Association (AP2SI) of Central Sulawesi in collaboration with the Bumi Hijau Khatulistiwa Foundation (BIJAK), the Central Sulawesi Participatory Mapping Service Center (SLPP), and the People&#039;s Education Foundation (YPR).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The workshop became a space for consolidating indigenous communities to formulate the direction of the community&#039;s struggle, starting from strengthening customary institutions, protecting territories and natural resources, to developing an economy based on local wisdom.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event was attended by traditional institutions, village governments, community leaders, women, youth, and civil society organizations. Over two days, participants mapped the potential and challenges faced by indigenous communities in maintaining their living spaces.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Watutau Indigenous Community Leader Christian Toibo said the workshop was not merely about compiling a list of activities, but also about strengthening the direction of the indigenous community&#039;s struggle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c&quot;This is a shared space to safeguard the territory, identity, and future of the Watutau indigenous community,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The chairman of the Central Sulawesi SLPP, Agus M. Suleman, highlighted the pressure faced by the Watutau indigenous community due to territorial claims from a number of parties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He explained that geographically, the Watutau customary area is squeezed by the Land Bank Agency&#039;s claim to the east, while on the west side it borders the Lore Lindu National Park area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c&quot;Amidst this situation, the community continues to maintain regional management practices based on customary values, mutual cooperation, and sustainability. Therefore, this struggle must be strengthened with sound planning and organization,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the workshop, participants developed a shared vision and short-, medium-, and long-term work plans.
