Policy Brief JUSTICE FOR THE MHA SPACE TO PEKUREHUA WANUA WATUTAU

The struggle of indigenous peoples is not merely about identity recognition, but also about maintaining living space, socio-ecological relations, local knowledge, the sustainability of life between generations, and the protection of indigenous territories and all the collective rights inherent within them. Amid increasing pressure on indigenous territories due to investment expansion, tenure conflicts, and non-participatory policies, indigenous peoples continue to face threats to the sustainability of their lives, culture, and management of their spaces.

The Policy Brief "Justice for Indigenous Peoples' (MHA) Spaces to Pekurehua Wanua Watutau" was prepared as part of a joint effort and contribution to promote the recognition, protection, and restoration of indigenous peoples' rights to their living spaces. This document also aims to strengthen indigenous peoples' access to and control over their own territories as an integral part of social, ecological, and human rights justice.

This policy brief was prepared through a collaboration between the Indonesian Social Forestry Management Association of Central Sulawesi, Bumi Hijau Khatulistiwa, the People's Education Foundation, the Sulawesi Ecological Justice Foundation, the Central Sulawesi Participatory Mapping Service Center, and Palu Women's Solidarity as a form of civil society support for the struggle of indigenous peoples in defending their rights to their territory, lives, and future.

This document is an effort to encourage the presence of fairer, more participatory and rights-based policies for indigenous communities who are the main subjects in every decision-making process concerning their territory.
